Suren Ratwatte has been the Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines – the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the oneworld alliance - since October 2015. The period under his leadership has seen a major transformation of the airline, with the development of an Asian-centric strategy, capturing of additional revenue streams, strengthening of subsidiary businesses and a greater focus on profitability. During this period the airline concluded a successful merger with its sister regional airline in a record time and has now expanded its network to the highest number of destinations ever served in its 38-year history. A veteran airline pilot with over 19000 flying hours – Capt. Ratwatte was one of the first commercial pilots to operate an Airbus A380 aircraft and served as a commander of the type at his former employer, Emirates. His work on aviation has been published internationally and he was also one of the featured personalities on Malcolm Gladwell’s best-selling book ‘Outliers’. Capt. Ratwatte holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
