Barry is a Director of Agri-Nomics Australia, a logistics start-up focused on providing a dedicated agri-transport network for high-margin/time-sensitive Australian agricultural products to key Asian markets, with a priority focus on China. Until recently, he was Head of Strategy for a family office private equity firm based in the Middle East and Africa and advises airlines and their investors and boards on strategy, turnarounds, new market entry and commercial matters. He is a highly experienced strategy and commercial executive with a strong record of achievement in areas including: strategy development and implementation; most strategic & commercial aspects of airlines/aviation; management consulting; and major project management. Barry spent five years as the Chief Strategy Officer (a board adviser role) with South African Airways, based in Johannesburg, to 2015. Prior to this he was with CAPA Consulting, during which time he provided advice to some of the world’s major airlines and notably was a member of the team responsible for the successful establishment of South African Airways’ low-cost carrier Mango Airlines, remaining post-launch as their Commercial Director for two years. He has also held a number of senior executive roles in major airlines, including Vice President Relaunch Program with Air New Zealand and General Manager of the Olympic Program with Ansett Australia. Barry holds an Economics degree from La Trobe University and Post Graduate Diploma in Arts (Russian Studies) from the University of Melbourne and is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
